Puppetry in Practice provides students, teachers, and administrators with quality educational arts programming, performances, and crafts, developing literacy and understanding between people of all cultures through puppetry, storytelling, and book arts. In need of a new look, an approach towards simple composition, order, and abstraction that signifies friendliness and protects the dignity of imagination was taken.
The new Puppetry in Practice logo leans on typography that balances a geometric approach with serifed letterforms. Low stroke contrast and open counters make it readable in a variety of applications. Slab serifs connote juvenile academicism. A lowercase “in” brings balance to the phrase’s visual rhythm while emphasizing the second line. PiP puts puppetry into practice.
Puppetry in Practice provides free craft materials. Kits are a self-contained tactile experience and serve as a gift to the student, which is personalized through folding, cutting, and gluing. Economy allows PiP the freedom to customize kit contents according to programming. Any number of variations are possible, but presented here are kits for hand puppetry, shadow puppetry, and puppet stagecraft. Patterns in each poster are abstract representations of the corresponding kit’s use case. The posters create anticipation and begin the viewer on their own creative journey.
