NYU Environmental Studies and Sociology

Lilac Flower

The Environmental Studies and Sociology building at NYU opened in 2026 after a thorough renovation. The building’s identity is deeply interwoven with the comprehensive experiential design program Piscatello Design Centre prepared. During this massive undertaking, a photoshoot in Washington Square Park yielded two images selected for the building’s first floor stairwell wall. As part of a journey through the park’s history that begins on the seventh floor with archival photography from 1910, the images serve as an invitation to the park directly outside the building, both commemorating the date of the building’s opening and connecting it to the present moment just outside.
