Lonely Letters

Exploring Governor’s island, a U.S. Coast Guard base until 1996, one will be quick to notice the abandoned buildings. Taking a closer look, there are also a plethora of obsolete signs and graphics pertaining to a bygone era. Lonely Letters examines these stragglers and their dilapidated surroundings. Many of these buildings are set to be demolished; many already have been. With them will go valuable glimpses of design and the island’s former life.

Shot during a single day, Lonely Letters gets up close and personal with the island’s often overlooked details. It serves as a time capsule, fascinating and, at times, a bit creepy.
